Present Senses Logo
The Present Senses’ mountain is that of Long’s Peak, as distinguished by its long, flat top. In 2010, my husband and I moved to Colorado to live near and experience the mountains. We see Long’s Peak and those surrounding it every day. It’s breathtaking each and every day. During my teenage years, I had a Columbia jacket that said, “Long’s Peak” on the back collar. I don’t think it even registered that it was real place and I didn’t care enough to bust open a World Book Encyclopedia to find out. I guess in retrospect it was a sign of my future to come. But, if you don’t notice the sign at the time, maybe it’s because you’re not really open to it. I was content in Wisconsin, I still had a lot of growing up to do there.

Enter the time in my life when I was ready and looking for that sign. I was driving down the road and started to ponder if Present Senses was the direction I should be headed. Should I really be sharing my words with the world? I was starting to doubt. Then, at a stoplight, a magpie nearly flew into my windshield. Even in the security of my car, I ducked a little. I soon thereafter discovered that the magpie’s speech is symbolic of of communication and creative expression. Sure, magpies represent a lot of other things, but I took my magpie and made it into what I needed at that moment: the courage to keep moving forward with something that was starting to become frighteningly real.

My hope is that our logo reminds you to take the time to soak in something everyday that takes your breath away. It doesn’t have to be a huge mountain, it can be as simple as the smile on your child’s face. As for “your sign”- it’s related to your passion in the world. The more you live in the present moment, the more likely you will be to truly see it. My guess is that it’s already in front of you.
